Book Review: Chic on a Shoestring

Chic on a Shoestring by Mary Jane Baxter includes many vintage style accessories that are mostly quick and easy to make. The front of the book includes a useful section of advice on finding and buying vintage items to use for the projects in the book.

The rest of the book is split into sections dividing the projects into Customising, Straightforward Sews, Beautiful Blooms, Jewellery, Hats and Headwear and Suitcase Essentials. I especially like the customising section because it includes a lot of quick but effective ideas for updating your clothes that won't break the bank! I pretty much love all the projects in the book and the best thing is that there are so many projects so whatever your taste you are bound to find something you like.

Some of the projects in the book use everyday materials to create stunning accessories. There is a beautiful necklace which includes flowers made out of shoe laces and would you believe that the hat on the front cover of the book is made from cereal packet?!

This book is a brilliant buy for anyone who loves making their own accessories and spending hours hunting for vintage materials to make the projects. What I love about Chic on a Shoestring is that the projects are generally smaller and will not take up a large amount of time but they look professional and will instantly transform a simple outfit into a vintage beauty!

I rate this book at 5/5 because it has so many beautiful projects and its perfect for lovers of vintage accessories. Also, as suggested in the name, Chic on a Shoestring includes many projects that are inexpensive to make.
